Management: Product and innovation

Experimentation

Rules found in this domain: P31.

Illustrative, not evidence.

Scenario. A product team cannot predict which checkout page converts best. It builds eight variants and tests each with real visitors. Each round has a defined test, and the team writes down which variants it kept. It keeps the best and repeats with new variants based on them.

  • P31: No model is good enough to predict the result, so the team generates variants, tests them, keeps the best and repeats. Each round has a defined test and a record of what was kept.

Innovation management

Rules found in this domain: P17.

Illustrative, not evidence.

Scenario. A company wants its new product to use an unproven sensor technology. The team has not used it before. The innovation lead records a maturity assessment of the sensor. The product's core function keeps a proven sensor, and the new one is used only in an optional add-on.

  • P17: The technology is new to the team, so its maturity is assessed and recorded. The immature technology stays out of the critical path.
